The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has opened two new marine bridges linking Al Reem Island directly to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E‑12). Designed to handle up to 7,200 vehicles per hour.

Abu Dhabi has officially inaugurated two new marine bridges connecting Al Reem Island to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E-12), marking a significant infrastructure milestone led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport.

The project, developed at a cost of AED 450 million, aims to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion across key areas of the capital. Designed to handle up to 7,200 vehicles per hour, the bridges are expected to reduce peak travel times by up to 15 minutes, offering a faster and more efficient route for daily commuters.

This upgrade improves connectivity between Al Reem Island and Saadiyat Island, while also easing pressure on major roads such as Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street and Mina Road. The addition of a dedicated freight U-turn bridge linking Zayed Port to Saadiyat Island enhances the movement of commercial traffic and separates heavy vehicles from regular traffic flow, improving overall road safety.

Officials confirmed that the project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s long-term infrastructure strategy focused on mobility, sustainability, and urban expansion. The improved road network is expected to support economic activity, facilitate smoother logistics, and accommodate increasing traffic demand as the city continues to grow.

From a real estate perspective, enhanced accessibility to Al Reem Island is likely to strengthen its position as a preferred residential destination. Improved connectivity to key lifestyle and cultural destinations such as Saadiyat Island, along with faster access to highways leading towards Dubai, is expected to positively influence property demand and long-term value growth in the area.

The completion of these bridges reflects Abu Dhabi’s continued investment in transport infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to building a well-connected, efficient, and future-ready urban environment.
